    InfraClay3700G GCL: Jamieson Rural Dam Lining

    Jarramlee-April04-2023-004 NftnDTR

    The Project

    A private rural property in Jamieson, Victoria required a dependable lining solution for a small on-farm dam to improve water retention and minimise long-term seepage. The client was seeking a product that could deliver consistent hydraulic performance while remaining practical for installation in a rural setting with straightforward construction methods.

    Given the intended use of the dam and the expectation of prolonged saturation, the liner needed to provide a durable, low-permeability barrier capable of maintaining performance over time

    Challenges

    Small dam applications require careful consideration of seepage control, particularly where ground conditions may vary and access to specialist installation resources is limited. The client required confidence that the liner system would perform reliably once hydrated, with secure overlap sealing and minimal risk of leakage pathways forming over time.

    It was also important that the installation process remained manageable, with overlap treatment that was effective but not overly complex, ensuring consistent performance without unnecessary installation burden.

    // Our Solution

    Geosynthetics Australia recommended InfraClay® 3700G, a high-performance geosynthetic clay liner incorporating a granular sodium bentonite core needle-punched between durable carrier and protection geotextiles. Once hydrated, the bentonite forms a continuous low-permeability barrier well suited to pond and dam lining applications.

    InfraClay® 3700G features factory-treated overlap edges, which reduce the amount of bentonite paste required during installation while still allowing for proper seam sealing. Bentonite paste is applied at overlaps as part of standard installation practice, but the treated edges help streamline this process and improve consistency across joints. This approach supports long-term hydraulic continuity while keeping installation straightforward and robust.
