    InfraCell150-445 Geocell: Netball Court Pavement Stabilisation – Brighton-Le-Sands, NSW

    Netball Court

    The Project

    Pavement construction over variable ground conditions can create challenges for sporting infrastructure projects, particularly where long-term surface performance is critical. Localised settlement, rutting, and deformation can negatively affect pavement quality and increase future maintenance requirements.

    The project specification required a geocell system with a minimum depth of 150 mm, a weld spacing not exceeding 450 mm, and a minimum peel strength of 2.1 kN per seam. These requirements were established to ensure the selected geocell could provide adequate confinement of the infill material while maintaining structural integrity under loading. The specified geocell also needed to deliver consistent performance throughout the design life of the pavement.

    Challenges

    InfraCell150-445 was selected due to its ability to satisfy the project's engineering requirements while providing effective cellular confinement within the pavement structure. Manufactured from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), the geocell forms a three-dimensional network that confines aggregate particles and restricts lateral movement within the pavement layers.

    The system features a 150 mm cell depth, 445 mm weld spacing, and a minimum peel strength of 2.4 kN per seam, exceeding the project's specified minimum requirements. Through cellular confinement, InfraCell150-445 improves load distribution across the pavement structure, reducing concentrated stresses on the underlying subgrade and enhancing overall pavement stability.

    By increasing the stiffness and load-bearing capacity of the pavement system, the geocell helps minimise the risk of rutting and differential settlement while contributing to a more durable and resilient surface.

    // Our Solution

    The use of InfraCell150-445 provided an effective pavement reinforcement solution for the netball court development, delivering a stable foundation capable of supporting the design requirements of the project. By improving load distribution and aggregate confinement, the geocell system contributed to a more robust pavement structure while maintaining compliance with the project's engineering specifications.

    This project highlights the value of geocell technology in sporting infrastructure applications, where long-term pavement performance and surface stability are essential. Through the use of InfraCell150-445, the project benefited from a proven ground stabilisation solution designed to enhance pavement durability and service life.
